Shipping Container Prices in Panama: 2026 Guide

Search "how much does a container cost in Panama" and you'll find everything: flashy ads, prices that exclude delivery, and even impossible offers from sellers outside the country. This guide compiles the real ranges observed in the Panamanian market and explains what moves the price, so you can compare properly. Important: these are market ranges, not Containero offers — every unit is quoted individually with real photos and a final written price.

Market ranges in Panama (2026)

These are the ranges observed in public listings and classifieds in Panama as of mid-2026 (standard unit, unmodified, before ITBMS tax and delivery):

Used 20ft container (WWT/CW): roughly $1,900 – $2,500

Used 40ft container (standard or High Cube): roughly $2,750 – $3,200

New 20ft container (one-trip): roughly $2,300 – $3,500

New 40ft container (one-trip): roughly $3,300 and up

Add ITBMS tax (7%) and the cost of transport and offloading, which varies by province and site access.

Beware of too-good-to-be-true prices: ads for containers "from $1,300" usually come from sellers with no yard in Panama, no local tax registration and no specific unit to show. If a price is far below the market range, ask for photos of the exact unit, the yard address and a formal invoice before paying anything.

The 5 factors that move the price

1. Condition grade: a WWT (wind and water tight) unit costs less than a CW (cargo worthy / seaworthy) one, and a one-trip is the most expensive. For storage, WWT is usually the best value.

2. Size and type: a 40ft costs more than a 20ft in total, but less per square meter. High Cube, refrigerated (reefer) and special types have their own market.

3. Transport and access: delivering in Panama City is not the same as climbing to Volcán or entering a farm with a narrow road. Truck type (flatbed vs tilt-bed) and crane requirements change the number.

4. Port availability: Panama is Latin America's transshipment hub and unit supply is usually good, but Canal activity peaks can move prices and lead times.

5. Modifications: extra doors, windows, insulation, paint or electrical installation are quoted separately.

The safe way to compare is to request one final written number: container + transport + offloading + taxes. That avoids the classic "base price" trick that grows later.

Why does Containero quote per unit instead of publishing prices?

Every used container is different: grade, year, floor, doors and roof condition. And every delivery is different: province, access, offloading. Publishing a single price would force us to inflate it to cover the worst case — or surprise you with charges later.

Our process: message us on WhatsApp with the size and your location, we send real photos of available units, and you receive a written quote with the final number within 24 hours or less. No surprise charges on delivery day.
